S.Pellegrino announces the latest edition of its international culinary competition with this year’s theme of finding the next generation of young chefs who pioneer the use of gastronomy as a device for social change
The impact of gastronomy is now being felt beyond the kitchen
– recognizing this,S.Pellegrino announces the return of S.Pellegrino Young Chef, a global culinary competition that facilitates access to the gastronomy community, enabling young talents to demonstrate their personal beliefs.
Applications for the first stage of the competition are now open; each of the 12 regions will search for the top 10 to 15 young chefs. The 10 successful applicants from North America will be announced on June 7, 2019 and compete in New York City in late 2019 at the North American Regional Semi-Finals. The North American winners will go on to compete against the winners from the other 11 regions at the Grand Finale in Milan, Italy in 2020.
The winners of S.Pellegrino Young Chef’s awards are provided the extraordinary opportunity to gain global visibility and a significant professional prestige. The winners are also invited to take part in several of the S.Pellegrino’s high profile annual events around the world, including events related to future Young Chef competitions.
As a long term partner of the greatest minds in culinary excellence, S.Pellegrino truly believes in the transformative power of gastronomy. For the first time, there will be three awards in addition to the title of “S.Pellegrino Young Chef.” These awards will give a voice and platform to young chefs where they can each voice their varied beliefs and approaches to the way gastronomy plays a deep role in transforming society.
The four awards are as follows:
Fine Dining Lovers Food for Thoughts Award: Voted for by the online Fine Dining Lovers community – awarded to the young chef who best represents his/her personal belief within his/her dish.
S.Pellegrino Award for Social Responsibility: Voted for by an internationally recognized voice on sustainability in food – this dish will represent the principle that food is best when it’s the result of social responsible practises.
Acqua Panna Award for Connection in Gastronomy: Voted for by mentors who represent 50 countries around the world – the winning dish will be the one that reflects a connection between different cultures on one plate, celebrating a global approach to gastronomy.
And finally, the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Award: Voted by the esteemed panel of Seven Sages – this winning chef must demonstrate unrivalled technical skills as well as genuine creativity. He/she displays a strong personal belief about gastronomy that will convince the Jury about his/her ability to become a catalyst for positive change.
